I conceived Moke Life back in early 2007 when trying to come up with a name for a website I was trying make for my skate videos. My only criteria was that the name be Hawaiian or relate to Hawaii to identify where I came from. Then, one day while taking a dump, I received a gift. While sitting on my toilet at home, I remember thinking something along the lines of "...thug life? we don't have thugs, but we have mokes. moke life." And that's how Moke Life was born.
Now if you don't know what a moke is, here are some common stereotypes. For the most part, they're all true. But what all these people failed to acknowledge is the core essense of the moke, their unsurmisable amount of pride for their origins. Pride runs deep in a moke, it's the reason they are the way they are. Now you may be wondering, "What does mokes and skateboarding have to do with each other?" Besides the fact that some mokes skateboard, nothing really comes to mind. This is just a simple tool to promote Hawaii skateboarding and Hawaiian shredders.
Growing up in Maui, I got to study well and I've came to the conclusion that though some are more rugged than others, all mokes are essentially the same. All mokes live to cruise and have a good time. 'Scraps' are a part of the good time. I don't know what I'm getting at with this but I'd like you to know that this site is dedicated to all the mokes and all the local bruddahs out there because you are my inspiration and just the shit. Hawaii no ka oi.
